Volunteer Opportunities

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES:
Community Rebuilding Day is Saturday, October 14, 2017.
This year’s project will focus on Paterson’s Circle Avenue neighborhood and Paterson Task Force’s “Hilltop Haven” shelter for women and children. We will hold a neighborhood Fire Safety campaign, curb appeal clean up, and provide repairs and a “make over” for the shelter facility.

Year-round and National Rebuilding Month Opportunities:
Skilled Tradespeople or General Handymen/women
We always need skilled tradespeople who are willing to donate their labor on National Rebuilding Day (or year-round). Plumbing, carpentry, masonry, appliance repair, tree pruning/removal and more can assist homeowners in need throughout Bergen County and the City of Paterson in Passaic County.

Safety Coordinator
Ensure that all work at a Rebuilding project site is done in a safe manner. View the home in advance, work with the home team, plan for potential hazards, and take preventive measures to eliminate risks.

House Ambassador
Be available to the homeowner on Rebuilding Day and represent their interests, serving as liaison between the homeowner and the work team. Good communication and people skills needed. Must be able to work with all ages.
Volunteer Registration Form: be specific about your skills and availability.
  Evaluation Team Members
Evaluators visit homes and non-profit facilities whose owners/managers have applied for assistance from Rebuilding Together.  This key function assesses and reports on the repairs or modifications that should be made for safety, health, warmth, energy efficiency and accessibility.
To be a successful contributor in this role, volunteers should have a good knowledge of home repair and construction.  You can volunteer on your own schedule (daylight hours preferred), but attendance at three evening meetings for training and project selections is mandatory.

Evaluations take place from late spring through mid-November.
Board Members
Our board of directors meets monthly to oversee the organization and steer it toward a vision for the future. We are looking for new members who have skills in volunteer management, event planning, finances, or fundraising and who have connections to the diverse Bergen and/or Passaic County communities that we serve. If you would like to share your skills with RTNJ, contact us to discuss current opportunities on our Board of Directors.
